Down 5!
Fitness: This week is a lot easier than last week, I can now run .5 miles without stopping and I am not as sore as I was last week. When I first started I got winded walking up the driveway so in just over 2 weeks to be able to run .5 miles I'm pretty excited!
Food: I never knew I could cook, and I really like it. Weight Watchers is all about planning... all my dinners & lunches are planned on Saturday or Sunday making it so easy to both food shop and cook. I had to kick my mum out of the kitchen last night because I wanted to cook... I don't think she minded! Last weekend I made dinner for Mimi and Poppa and we had raspberry crepes for dessert... they were so good! It helps to also have a lot of WW Cookbooks to work with!
Weighed in Saturday. Lost 1.2... thought I was going to do better BUT a pound is a pound!
Total weight loss: 5.6lbs

Chicken and Chickpea Chili
Thought I would share this recipe... Made it last night for lunch today and it was great!
Ingredients:
4 teaspoons olive oil
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 red onion, chopped
3/4 pound of ground chicken (I used turkey)
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (weird I know but it was yummy!)
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
3 (14 1/2 ounce) cans of crushed tomatoes (I used fresh ones from the garden!)
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
3/4 cup canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1. Cook peppers and onion until softened, add chicken and cook until brown
2. Sprinkle with: flour, chili powder, cumin, cocoa powder and cayenne stirring constantly, cook for about 1 minute
3. Stir in tomatoes and balsamic vinegar, bring to a boil
4. reduce heat and simmer for 30-40 minutes stirring frequently
Only 8 WW points per serving (serving is 1 1/2 cups)
Enjoy!

Day 20
I am going to break most of my blogs into two main categories: Fitness & Food. So here goes.
FITNESS: Last night Nick and I went for another walk/run. We had been bringing the dogs but left them at home because we felt it would allow us to focus more. They were not happy! But we were right it was better without with them. From the end of my drive way to the end of my road and back is a mile. My first big goal is to be able to run that, for now I am going mail box to mail box taking breaks in between to build up some endurance. Last night I ran (off and on) about 1/2 mile. Nick and I made a commitment to walk SOMETHING Monday - Friday.
Before I left for the walk last night I felt tired and just wanted to go to bed. Nick and I forced each other to go and when we came back I felt so energized... I felt so good! I kind of wished I stayed out longer.
FOOD: Another goal I have is to stop eating after 8pm, and just drink water. I am defiantly an emotional eater, something goes wrong I eat... something goes right I eat. So I need to work on training myself to only eat when I am hungry, easy for some people... not for me. Anyways, back to no eating after 8pm, I used to be in such a routine with food and TV at night. I HAD to have a snack (and not a little one) while watching my favorite night time shows. It was my security blanket if you will. I don't know why I started this... but I know that I need to stop it. So last night was the first night I made a conscious choice no more eating after dinner. It was weird... I am just so used to night time snacks. I am going to replace the eating with doing some arm exercise with 5lb weights... trade the bad for the good!
Nick and I have also joined weight watchers, for me it is the only program that works. I am the kind of person that needs to be held accountable. If no one is "watching" me I'm not going to do it, especially in the beginning. My hope is that I stick with WW for a year or two... get to my goal weight and by then I will have my mind frame changed and I can do it without WW. The best part of WW is that they teach you it is not a diet, it is a way of life. I have lost with them before and I know they work for me.

You have to start somewhere!
I’ve decided to start a blog to track my current weight loss journey. I have always wanted to start a blog but didn’t feel I had anything to write about… well this seemed like a perfect topic. I used to be so embarrassed to let people know I was trying to lose weight and get healthier but it really isn’t anything to be embarrassed about. It is much more embarrassing to sit around and not do anything. I’ve got a long way to go but I’m in it for real this time.
No more excuses.
No more turning back to old habits.
No more FAT Jen.
I used to be so scared of the word FAT too or use it joking around all the time. Like “I’ll just stop at Wendy’s I’m fat anyways so what’s the difference?” Well no more. This had been a battle for my whole life and I know it will be one FOREVER. I’m 25 it’s time I start taking control of this before I have serious and permanent health issues. I’m ready… and there is no other option.
I’m really excited to do this. I feel like I am at such a good place in my life and I have a lot of exciting events going on in the next couple of years. So here goes… Any support of words of encouragement would be great because I know there will be many days that I do not feel this positive about it.
Until next time.
